Opening Night Performance
One Last Summer : March 29th 1995 :Atlanta .
Stage fright or pre-concert terror are not unfamiliar to me. In fact , and I'm sure the guys in Sailor would confirm this, the more successful we became the more responsibility we felt as we waited for the curtain to go up.
With my first opening night as a composer , it was actually worse! Sitting in the audience, powerless and incapable of influencing the outcome was a new one for me.
What you also have to accept is that invariably the opening night performance is not great. This is not helped by the fact that the Critics are in. About a week in, the production tends to have found it's feet.
The collage above captures some of those first night moments. As you know all photography is strictly forbidden in theatre productions and I wonder who dared to defy the authorities. The beautiful lady peeping out at the top of the shot is Kim Trenerry, who played Ruth Anne a stripper. Ruth Anne ends up marrying the geeky one with the glasses. (no comments please)
